Game Boy Palette
The original Game Boy could only show four shades — a distinctive olive-green set that defines the handheld’s look. Here are the exact colors, plus a one-click way to apply them to your own image.
About the palette
The Game Boy’s screen was monochrome, displaying four levels of a green-tinted grey. Everything from Tetris to Pokémon was drawn with just these four shades, which is why the palette instantly reads as "Game Boy".
Because there are only four colors, images converted with it become bold and graphic. It works best on high-contrast subjects where shape matters more than color.
When to use it
Reach for the Game Boy palette when you want a strong retro, one-console feel — avatars, logos, and simple characters look great in it. For anything needing color, try a fuller palette like PICO-8 instead.
